Shelving Allocation by Collection
The Shelving Allocation by Collection tool describes shelf allocation within a selected location’s collections and makes recommendations to relieve pooling or drought situations based on the library’s desired shelf capacity.
The Shelving Allocation by Collection tool includes the following components:
Initial Filters
You can set the following filters to configure this report:
Branch Location
The Branch Location containing the collections to be analyzed.
Desired Capacity %
The shelf capacity low and high values as a percentage. The defaults are 60 and 90.
Data Rows and Columns
The following data rows and columns appear in the results:
Collection
The collection to which the row's data applies.
The Collection names reflect the collections configured on the Collection page of the Decision Center Admin section.
Number of items at preferred capacity
The range of items within the low and high values set in the Desired Capacity % filter based on the calculated total item capacity.
Number of items on shelf
The current number of items on the shelf.
Difference
The difference between the actual number of items on the shelf versus the capacity range percentage.
The difference is calculated as the number of items on the shelf minus the low value of the preferred item capacity range.
If the number of items on the shelf is less than the low value of the preferred item capacity range, the difference is calculated as the number of items on the shelf minus the low value of the preferred item capacity range.
If the number of items on the shelf is greater than the high value of the preferred item capacity range, the difference is calculated as the number of items on the shelf minus the high value of the preferred item capacity range.
If the number of items on the shelf falls within the preferred item capacity range, the difference is zero.
Current % of preferred capacity
The currently used shelf space as a percentage of the overall shelf space allocated for the collection or branch.
Status
The status of the collection. Possible values are:
- Pooled: Number of items on shelf greater than the preferred capacity
- Drought: Number of items on shelf less than the preferred capacity
- Stable: Number of items on the shelf falls within the preferred capacity
Remedy Filters
You can apply the following filters to modify the results:
Show only Pooled
Limits the results to collections in which the number of items on the shelf greater than preferred capacity.
Show only Drought
Limits the results to collections in which the number of items on the shelf less than preferred capacity.
Hide Stable
Omits the collections in which the number of items on the shelf falls within the preferred capacity.
