Troubleshooting the Sierra Scheduler

If a job fails, check the following:

  • If the job did not run, is the job active?
  • If FTP is involved, have you correctly entered the Host machine IP, the username and password to log into the host, and the Remote Directory on the host machine to which you will connect?
  • If you want to "get" a file from your default directory on a remote FTP server, did you input a '.' (dot or period) in the "Remote Directory" text box in the Task Builder?
  • If you are loading a file using "pattern" (as opposed to "filename"), are you using the '*' (asterisk or splat) for wildcarding one or more characters? The asterisk is the valid choice for wildcarding in this application.
  • If a review file was not created, check your criteria, in particular your saved search strategy and stored record type.
  • If user initials are specified, are the initials still on the system (for example, no one has deleted them from the Passwords and Authorizations file)?
  • If a username (staff login) is associated with a scheduled task, is the username still on the system (for example, no one has deleted it from the Login Manager)?
  • Was the job scheduled to run at two o'clock on a day when Daylight Savings changed the hour? Do not schedule jobs to run in the two o'clock hour on those dates when Daylight Saving Time changes.

Troubleshooting Codes

The Sierra Scheduler administrators (usually those authorized for Job Scheduler) receive email notification when a job fails. See Setting the Administrators' Email Address for more information.

The emailed troubleshooting codes indicate why a job failed. For example, failure to transfer a file can indicate a problem with FTP, ports, or other necessary elements in the transfer function. Failure to convert a file or run a program can indicate that the file's format is incorrect or that the file's content is not valid.

The email messages sent to the administrators when a job fails include the following codes (or "message numbers"):
