Localized Time Display

Contact Innovative to enable the Localized Time Display feature.

Using the Localized Time Display feature, your library can display time stamps in the user's time zone. When this feature is enabled, the Sierra Desktop Application, Sierra Web, and WebPAC use the PC's time zone and display the time zone next to the date and time (for example, "06-20-2018 12:46PM PDT").

The Localized Time Display feature is used for display purposes only; Sierra uses the server time for all business logic and data processing. For example, items circulated under daily loan rules become overdue overnight according to the server time, which means they might appear to become overdue earlier or later in a different time zone.

If your library enables Localized Time Display, keep the following in mind:

  • The Hours Open table is interpreted using the server time only. If the server time is EST and a location operates in PST and closes at 8 PM, you must set the closing time as 2300 in the Hours Open table.
  • The Sierra Admin Application displays the server's time zone.
  • Most log files display the server time; however, the Circulation Overrides file displays times in local time with the time zone appended.
  • Sierra Offline Circulation automatically translates time stamps from the PC to the server time zone when uploading circulation transactions.
  • The due date field in SIP2 circulation transactions uses the server's time zone. The Sierra SIP2 server can be configured to send due dates using the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) standard; however, your SIP2 client must also support this format.

Note that the following Sierra functionality does not support Localized Time Display:

  • WebPAC Self Booking
  • Express Lane
  • Program Registration
  • Millennium Offline Circulation (Libraries with Localized Time Display must use the Sierra Offline Circulation client so that transactions are translated from the PC's time zone to the server's when they are uploaded.)
