Server Hardware and Software Requirements

Operating System/Platform for SFX

Refer first to Operating System Requirements for Red Hat Enterprise Linux for basic and detailed requirements and then refer to the additional specific SFX requirements below.

SFX will continue supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.9 until June 2026, after which only Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9 based on Intel or AMD 64-bit processors will be supported. If you are running an on-premises installation of SFX on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, we strongly recommend planning an upgrade to RHEL 8 or RHEL 9 as soon as possible. SFX releases will continue to run on top of RHEL 7 for the next few months; however, as of June 2026, we will no longer be able to deliver new SFX releases or KB updates for RHEL 7 environments.

For the exact server specifications, including the required number of CPUs and required RAM as a function of the number of concurrent users, contact your Ex Libris representative.

File System and Disk Space

The table below lists the minimal disk space requirements (excluding the operating system) for running and maintaining SFX software and data.

Disk Space Requirements
SFX Installation Type Size
SFX server with a single local instance 300 GB
SFX server with multiple local instances 300 GB + 30 GB for each additional local instance

A file system named /exlibris, which contains the required disk space, should be created. This file system must be used exclusively for SFX software and data.

Additional Server Software

The following are add-on software products that are included in the SFX package:

  • MariaDB
  • Perl
  • Apache
Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) must be disabled in the SFX installation because of conflicts with Apache.
