How cloudLibrary integration works
The integration doesn't provide a dedicated cloudLibrary filter in the app. Instead, it uses the existing catalog or discovery service to identify cloudLibrary titles.
The process works as follows:
-
A patron searches for a title in the app.
-
The app receives search results from the configured Polaris or Sierra instance or from Vega Discover.
-
The app identifies catalog records that correspond to cloudLibrary titles.
-
When the app finds a matching record, the cloudLibrary integration enriches the catalog record with information provided by the cloudLibrary APIs.
-
The patron can view real-time availability and available actions, such as borrowing the title or placing a hold.
Because cloudLibrary titles are discovered through the existing catalog or discovery service, cloudLibrary doesn't appear as an option in the Search In drop-down, as hoopla or OverDrive (Libby) may.
cloudLibrary titles must be in your catalog or Vega Discover. A title that is available in cloudLibrary is not automatically discoverable in the app. A corresponding catalog or Vega Discover record must be available for the title to appear in search results.
Patron experience
When cataloged cloudLibrary eContent records are configured in Polaris, Sierra, or Vega Discover, patrons can discover cloudLibrary titles through the app's search feature.
Search results are returned from the configured Polaris or Sierra instance or from Vega Discover. If a cloudLibrary title is present, the connector enhances the matching record with enriched metadata, real-time availability, and borrowing actions provided by the cloudLibrary APIs. These titles appear alongside other catalog materials.
