The AI Metadata Assistant in the Metadata Editor

The AI Metadata Assistant uses a Large Language Model generative AI to process information about a library resource, and suggest relevant metadata to the cataloger to help make the cataloging process quicker and more efficient. The cataloger can then review the suggested data and accept, correct or dismiss it, as well as add more complex, expert metadata and library-specific metadata.

This session will be delivered by Yoel Kortick and Lili Daie

Linked Data Enrichment

Until now it was possible to use Linked Data Enrichment "On the fly" when publishing records or using and API.

As of the February 2025 Alma release "Permanent" Linked Data enrichment can now be configured in addition to "On the fly" enrichment.

Users can enable permanent enrichment of their MARC records through the linked data configuration. When this feature is activated for an authority in the enrichment configuration, the URI will be permanently added to the record in the designated subfield.

We will explain this feature and show a live demonstration.

This session will be delivered by Yoel Kortick and Adina Marciano

XSL Normalization Rules and Processes for Alma Metadata Records

XSL normalization of metadata records is now supported, enabling both manual and batch processing. Institutions can use XSL to manipulate metadata across all MARC-supported formats, enabling advanced data normalization through complex logic.

Key updates:

  • The new enable_xsl_normalization_rules parameter is set to false by default for all customers, except for DC/MODS customers who have already defined XSL normalization rules, for whom it is set to true.

  • A new privilege,Normalization Rules Enabled, has been added to all cataloger roles. Institutions can control which users can create normalization rules (DROOLS or XSL) and disable this privilege for selected roles if needed.

This session will be delivered by Yoel Kortick and Erez Shabo

Alma Analytics for RapidILL users

A new analytics dashboard and extensive set of corresponding reports has been developed in coordination with the input and cooperation of the RapidILL user community. The new reports and dashboard are (tentatively) scheduled to be in the July 2025 release. These new reports can be used independently or in addition to the existing Resource Sharing analytics reports.

During this session we will review the new reports and dashboard with an emphasis on how they are made and can be further customized to institution-specific needs if desired. We will also show how additional reports can be made specifically geared for RapidILL.

This session will be delivered by Yoel Kortick together with a special guest from the Alma Community:

Dr. Lynne Porat Head, Interlibrary Loan Dept., University of Haifa Chair, Israeli ILL Forum Member, IGeLU RapidILL Working Group

New Alma Authority Records Matching and Linking in the Aug. 2025 Release

The Partial Linking capability improves the matching of MARC21 name/title fields by allowing selective subfield linking. It systematically compares the full bibliographic heading with authority records, progressively removing subfields from right to left—based on their presence in the bibliographic heading—until a match is found or a core subfield is reached.

This capability enables more flexible linking of bibliographic name/title headings to authority records, improving match accuracy and efficiency while ensuring that only relevant subfields are updated in the bibliographic record.

Come hear about what's been done so far and what we're planning to do in the coming years.

This session will be delivered by Yoel Kortick and Erez Shabo.
