Transferring Ownership of Items and Collections Among Locations
Innovative offers three products that enable libraries to transfer ownership of items and collections among library branches. These products can help libraries reduce transit costs and streamline movement of items between locations.
- Using Floating Collections, libraries can allow some items to "float" between locations. When staff check in a floating item, the system automatically updates the item location so that it belongs to the checkin location, rather than requiring staff to set the item in transit to its original owning location. For more information, see Using Floating Collections.
- Using Deposit Collections, libraries can check out collections of items from a central repository (known as a deposit collection library) to other branches within the library system (known as member libraries). While on loan to member libraries, deposit collection items circulate like member library items. Deposit collections can then be returned to the deposit collection and then transferred to another member library. For more information, see Using Deposit Collections.
- Using Mobile Collections, libraries can define sets of items to be transferred as a group from one library branch to another. These groups, known as mobile collections, move among branches along a route and schedule defined when setting up the collection. While at each branch, mobile collection items circulate like items owned by that branch. Mobile collection items are then transferred to other branches until the route is complete. For more information, see Using Mobile Collections.
