Adding Images for Programs

To add images for programs, you must be assigned permissions 560 (Web Master), 752 (Create Program Records), and 754 (Update Program Records). See Permissions Used by Sierra for more information.

Program Registration allows you to add thumbnail images for a program. Thumbnail images display in the following places:

When you click on any of these thumbnail images, the system displays the corresponding full-sized image defined in the IMAGE URL field of the program record. If there is no URL in this field, the thumbnail image does not display as a clickable link.

To add images to a program record:

  1. Create both a thumbnail and full-size image for the program. Save these images to your PC or to an external server. See Requirements for Program Images below for guidelines and limitations on the images that you can use for programs.
  2. Using Web Master, import both of your images from your PC to the /iiidb/http/live/screens/temp_images directory in Sierra.

If your library stores images on a server other than Sierra (that is, an external server), skip this step.

Defining directories for Web Master

If you have not used these directories before, you must define the directories before you can access them in Web Master.

  1. In Program Registration, create a new program record or open the record for editing if one already exists.
  2. Add the URL for the thumbnail image in the THUMB URL field and the URL for the full-size image in the IMAGE URL field. Note that these URLs must be fully qualified for the images to display (for example, http://library.catalog.edu/images/storytime_large.jpg).
  3. Save the program record.

Once you save the program record, the thumbnail image appears immediately in the program and room calendars. The image displays in the brief record display within Program Registration the next time you access that record.

Requirements for Program Images

Program Registration allows you to use the following file types for program images:

  • BMP
  • GIF
  • JPEG
  • PNG
  • TIFF

Innovative recommends limiting the size of thumbnail images to approximately 100 by 100 pixels. Although Sierra optimizes the display of images to fit in the brief browse display within the Program Registration staff functions, image sizes are not altered for the program calendar, room calendar, or registration pages in the WebPAC. If an image is much larger than these dimensions (for example, over 150 pixels), it can cause display problems with the layout of these pages.
