Patron Requests by Staff

Contact Innovative to enable this feature.

The ability to perform tasks for a patron without possessing the patron's PIN requires Innovative setup of a separate WebPAC on its own port. Because this separate WebPAC requires no PIN for login, you must secure it against unauthorized access.

Through patron features of the WebPAC, patrons can perform tasks such as placing holds or choosing notice options. Typically, a patron logs into the WebPAC with a PIN to perform such tasks. If the Patron Requests by Staff feature is enabled, staff can perform these tasks for a patron without using the patron's PIN.

To perform tasks for a patron without using the patron's PIN:

  1. Enter the staff-only WebPAC address in the browser.

For example, if your WebPAC address were http://library.ci.cityname.ca.us, the staff-only WebPAC address might be http://library.ci.cityname.ca.us:2084.

Note that the access to the staff-only WebPAC is limited to selected staff workstations (i.e., selected IP addresses).

The staff-only WebPAC screens and data are identical to the public WebPAC with one exception: it allows anyone who accesses it to perform patron tasks without entering a PIN.
    Staff-only Screens

There are no staff-only screens in the staff-only WebPAC. When you perform a task for a patron, you use screens that are identical to those that the patron uses in the public WebPAC.

  2. Log in using the patron's name and barcode.

    A PIN is not required.
  3. In the staff-only WebPAC, complete the patron's requested task.

The screens and features are identical to those that the patron would use in the public WebPAC.
