Upgrade Checklist

Use the following checklist to ensure that you complete all of the steps necessary for upgrading to the latest release of the Innovative software.

  1. Read the Release Notes.

  2. Make sure that you have an SSH connection to the system, in Admin Corner.

Authorize User to Upgrade Software

  1. Complete a full backup of the system no more than 24 hours before beginning the upgrade.

  2. Authorize an administrative user for permission 100 using the Admin app's Authorizations and Authentication section. From the List of Users, select an administrative user, such as the Innovative System Administrator.  Select Edit | Permissions.

  3. Start a new Admin Corner session, and then log in to the system with the username you authorized in the previous step.

Space Check

  1. Follow the ADDITIONAL system functions | ALTER system parameters | Upgrade system software menu path.

  2. When prompted, press S (S > Secure FTP) to begin loading the software. The system displays the following message:

Loading preliminary build software.

The software upgrade pre-builds many of the system functions without affecting normal system use.

                        Sierra 6.6 upgrade

Please start this program no more than 7 calendar days before you want to complete this upgrade

Are you ready to start the Preparation Phase for Sierra 6.6? (y/n)
  1. Press Y. The system continues with the conversion:

Testing platform and configuration.

...

Verifying that there is free space to complete the install.
  1. After the system verifies that there is sufficient disk space to continue, you are prompted:

Sufficient disk space has been found to complete the install.

...

Do you wish to continue with the installation?

To continue, press Y, and then press Enter.  If you want to wait, press N, and then press Enter.

The system provides update and completion messages during the process until the following message appears:

Preparation phase is complete.

If the upgrade process reports that your system does not contain sufficient disk space for the upgrade, contact Innovative for further instructions.

Software Load

  1. The system displays a message similar to the following, and begins loading the new software image via FTP. Note that the system indicates the estimated time to load each component.

    When the build is complete, the system reports:

    Finished.
    Build complete.

    The system performs another space check to make sure there is enough room before proceeding with the Commit phase.

  2. Press Enter at the following prompt:

    To start the commit phase, you must restart the upgrade process via Admin Corner

Commit Phase

  1. Complete a full backup, if you have not done so in the last 24 hours.

  2. If you are not logged in, log in to your system with the username you authorized in Step 4.

  3. Follow the Select ADDITIONAL system functions | ALTER system parameters | Upgrade system software menu path.

  4. Press C at the following prompt:

    Continuing from an earlier load. Hit 'c' to continue.
    Continuing with previous execution.
  5. Type "COMMIT" (with all capital letters and no quotation marks) and then press Enter at the following prompt:

    To proceed with reboot to maintenance mode, type "COMMIT" (all upper case). To exit, type 'cancel'.
  6. The system displays an informational message. Press Enter at the prompt.

  7. Press Y when the system asks if you want to shut down the system.

  8. After rebooting, the system displays the message:

    INNOVATIVE SOFTWARE UPDATE IN PROGRESS

    If you were connected to the system via an SSH connection, you must initiate a new SSH session to see this message.

    Under the text "Please try again later", enter the passkey "upgradesierra6.6.0", and then press Enter. Type your username and password, and then press Enter.

  9. As the system performs the software build and data conversion process, it provides messages similar to the following and reports the percent complete:

    ***************************************
    System is now in maintenance mode --
    Ready to continue with software upgrade 
    *************************************** Press return to continue
    				
  10. Press Enter.

    Continuing...
    Not much will log to the screen
    ============================================
    Please wait while we update your system.
    This will about an hour but might take
    longer depending on your system.
    ============================================
    Continuing...
    Finishing primary build on DB server
    ...
    				
  11. The system reports that it is finished with the upgrade and displays the following prompt:

    System will now reboot to resume normal operation.
    Press return to continue	
  12. Press Enter. The system displays the following prompt:

    Are you sure you want to shut down Innovative now? (y/n)
  13. Press Y to reboot the system. The system confirms that it is rebooting, which may take several minutes.

    If you are connected to the system via a hardwired terminal, the Innovative main menu appears on the screen after the system reboots.

    Depending on the SSH client you use, if you were connected via an SSH session, the system might terminate your session and display the following message:

    Connection closed by foreign host.

    You must re-connect to the system after it reboots.

  14. Your system is now running Sierra 6.6. You can verify the system status by using Admin Corner. Use the following menu path:

    M > MANAGEMENT information
     I > INFORMATION about the system
      F > FILE information
        S > SYSTEM status
