Commit Phase

Remember that you will need access to a backup image completed within the last 24 hours for recovery purposes.

When you restart the upgrade process via Admin Corner, the system prompts you for a new passkey before rebooting the server into maintenance mode. You can obtain the passkey from CSDirect (https://csdirect.iii.com/custconv-aws) using your login credentials. This will allow for all future software upgrades to use signed URLs for all software downloads.

You need a passkey to proceed with upgrade. The passkey can be obtained from: https://csdirect.iii.com/custconv-aws

Enter the passkey.

Type the passkey and press Enter. After the passkey has been validated, the system displays the following message:

         
To reboot into maintenance mode, type 'COMMIT' (all upper case). To exit, type 'cancel'.

Type "COMMIT" (use all upper-case letters and no quotation marks). The following message appears:

The system will now reboot and all terminals and logins will display:
INNOVATIVE SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATE IN PROGRESS
 
When you see this message, type in the passkey:
 
          ugradesierra6.6.0
 
NOTE: There will not be a login prompt, or even a blinking
cursor. You will be typing the passkey in after the reboot and
directly on the screen right beneath where you will see:
 
     INNOVATIVE SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATE IN PROGRESS
 
     Please try again later....
 
You will then be prompted for your username and password.
 
Once the passkey and your username and password are entered,
this program will continue to complete the upgrade.
The above message or a login prompt should appear within five
minutes; if the shutdown takes longer than this, call INNOVATIVE
for assistance.

Press Enter. The following prompt appears:

Are you sure you want to shut down Innovative now? (y/n)

If you press Y, the following message appears:

Broadcast Message from root (Tues Nov 1 13:17:20):
  **** SYSTEM IS NOW SHUTTING DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE     ****
  Broadcast Message from root (Tues Nov 1 13:17:24):
  The system is going down for reboot NOW!

Depending on the SSH client you use, the system reports:

Connection closed by foreign host.

The system terminates your connection. You must initiate a new SSH session to your Innovative machine to continue with the conversion.

Upon connecting and the system accepting your Admin Corner SSH key, because it is now in maintenance mode, the system displays the following message instead of the ordinary menu:

INNOVATIVE SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATE IN PROGRESS
Please try again later ...

This message appears to anyone who tries to connect to your Innovative system while the software update is in progress.

To continue with the conversion, type the passkey:

     ugradesierra6.6.0

Press Enter.  Note that there is no login prompt or blinking cursor for entering the passkey. This passkey is not the same upgrade passkey retrieved from CSDirect that is used during the Prep Phase. This “ugradesierra6.6.0” passkey is used to initiate the Commit phase.

The system prompts for your username and password:

Login :  <sierra user authorized for upgrade function>
Password : <password for that user>

After you type your username and password (you must be authorized for password function 100), press Enter to continue.  The system begins the software build and data conversion. Please note that the data conversion can take some time to complete. The system displays the following messages:

If the screen stops responding for more than 30 minutes during the commit phase of the upgrade, that is, the file ETA does not change, contact Innovative for further instructions.

If your library has Encore, an additional message appears:

Your Encore server will be 
affected as well.
Encore will experience a restart
at some point during
the upgrade. Encore will not be able to
retrieve records for up to <#> minutes
during the restart.

Please DO NOT terminate your upgrade session during this step. Messages like those below will appear infrequently during the commit step of the upgrade, but will vary by system depending on prior release and other factors. The process is fairly silent. If you are concerned about the amount of time without an update message, please contact the help desk for a status of the upgrade.

Press Enter.  The system displays the following prompt:

Are you sure you want to shut down Innovative now? (y/n)

Press Y to reboot the system.  The system confirms that it is rebooting, which may take several minutes.

If you are connected to the system via a hardwired terminal, the Innovative main menu appears on the screen after the system reboots.

Depending on the SSH client you use, if you connected via an SSH session, the system terminates your session and provides the following message:

Connection closed by foreign host.

You must reconnect to the system after it reboots.

Your Innovative system is now running Sierra 6.6 software.

In some instances, the data conversion may require a consultation with Innovative staff.  In this case, the system then displays a message such as:

A data conversion call has been opened to the Help Desk.
...
A follow up consultation is required.
A call has been opened please look for it and resolve.
