PressReader Operating system compatibility
These requirements are determined by the PressReader SDK integrated into the Vega Mobile App and can't be changed by Clarivate. PressReader supports the current operating system version and the two previous major versions, in accordance with Apple's and Google's platform support policies.
If PressReader is enabled:
-
Devices running supported operating system versions continue to receive app updates.
-
Devices running unsupported operating system versions remain on their current app version until the operating system is upgraded.
-
Users who haven't previously installed the app can't download the PressReader-enabled version from the app store if their device runs an unsupported operating system.
Clarivate can configure the Apple App Store and Google Play Store so that patrons who previously downloaded the app and use an unsupported operating system remain on their current app version instead of receiving an incompatible update.
Example
If the app is currently on version 2026.22 and the PressReader integration is requested, the app will be updated to version 2026.22.500:
-
Patrons using supported operating system versions receive 2026.22.500 and future app updates.
-
Patrons using unsupported operating system versions remain on version 2026.22 permanently.
-
If a future release such as 2026.23 is published, supported devices continue receiving updates while unsupported devices remain on 2026.22 until upgraded.
Before enabling PressReader, Clarivate recommends reviewing patron device and operating system usage to understand how many patrons may be affected.
Assess device and operating system usage
The Apple Developer account provides data on how patrons interact with the library’s app after they have installed it. This will help them understand what devices and the operating systems that are being used to help make the decision to integrate PressReader into the Solus Library App.
