CMS FAQ

Arrow tab

Can I customize the icons and colors in an Arrow Tab?

Yes. You can select an icon for each nested tab from the built-in icon picker and assign a custom color using the Custom Color toggle switch.

Will the icons I choose appear on the home screen?

Icons configured for the root tab, such as Library Resources, don't appear on the home screen. Icons configured for nested tabs, such as Local History and Adult Learning, are displayed in the app.

What happens if I don't assign a URL or content to a nested tab?

If a nested tab does not have an action or destination assigned, such as a URL or content item, selecting the tab in the app does not perform an action. Make sure each nested tab is associated with the appropriate destination before publishing your changes.

Book Showcase tab

Can I use more than one Showcase style in the app?

Yes! You can add multiple Showcase Display tabs to your app, each using a different style and showing different content. This allows for greater flexibility and customization.

What determines which items appear in the Showcase?

The items shown in the Showcase come from the feed configured in the Home Screen tab. This feed might be from your ILS, a curated list, or a third-party content source, depending on your setup.

Do I need to configure the Showcase feed before setting up these tab styles?

Yes. The Showcase must first be set up in the Home Screen tab. The Showcase Display tab type simply presents that feed in the visual style you choose — it doesn’t create or configure the content itself.

Can I keep the Classic Showcase and use Book Showcase Tabs?

Yes. You can keep the Classic Home Screen Showcase and add Book Showcase Tabs in other locations on the Home Screen. If you want Book Showcase Tabs to replace the Classic Showcase, disable the Show Classic Bibliographic Showcase option in the Home Screen tab.

Nuggets tab

Why does the Nuggets Tab sometimes display in a column instead of the usual layout?

In some cases, the Nuggets Tab may appear in a single-column layout rather than the usual multi-column format. This typically happens on smaller screens, when accessibility settings (like large text or display scaling) are enabled, or when the Nugget text is particularly long.

The Vega Mobile uses a responsive design, meaning it adjusts based on screen size and content. When the text in a Nugget is lengthy, the layout will often shift to a single column to maintain readability and avoid truncation.

Account Highlights

I have a root app and multiple templates. Do I need to configure each one?

Yes. Highlight settings must be configured individually for each template. Changes made to the root app will not automatically apply to templates. Repeat the configuration steps for each template you want to include highlights on.

How often are account highlights updated?

Account highlights reflect real-time data from your Polaris or Sierra instance and connected systems. However, visibility in the app can depend on how frequently the cache for Polaris or Sierra is updated or how your data provider sync is configured. If a patron is not seeing updates reflected right away, ask them to reload the app.

Will patrons see account highlights if they aren’t logged in?

No. Account-based highlights are tied to a patron’s account. They will only appear after the patron has logged in to the app.

Why do some patrons see different highlights than others?

Highlights are personalized per patron based on their current checkouts, holds, bookings, and event registrations. It’s normal for patrons to see different information depending on their activity and account status.

Colors, themes, layouts

What does the Auto theme option do for patrons?

The Auto theme option follows the device’s system theme settings, automatically switching between Light and Dark modes to match the patron’s environment or preference.

How can I ensure my color choices support accessibility?

Use good contrast between text and background colors to help patrons with visual impairments or color vision differences navigate your app easily. Testing colors with accessibility tools is recommended.

Will patrons need to update or reinstall the app to see color or theme changes?

No, patrons generally don’t need to reinstall the app. Color changes configured in the Content Management System will be updated when the app fetches new settings.

However, theme and layout changes made by patrons take effect immediately within the app.

Can patrons switch themes or layouts multiple times?

Yes, patrons can change their theme and home view preferences as often as they like via the My Account > Preferences menu.

Are color and theme settings consistent across iOS and Android?

Yes, color configurations set in the CMS and theme/layout preferences available to patrons work consistently across both iOS and Android versions of the app.

Who can change the app’s default colors and themes?

Only library staff or administrators with access to the Content Management System can configure default UI colors and theme settings. Patrons can only change their personal theme and layout preferences.

What happens if I set colors that conflict with accessibility guidelines?

The app will display the chosen colors, but poor contrast may make the app difficult for some patrons to use. We strongly recommend testing colors for readability and accessibility compliance.

Why don't the patron's app colors change when they selected Dark Theme?

The Dark Theme preference only affects supported interface areas, such as My Account, Checkouts, search displays, and Item Details Display. It does not override the colors configured by your library for the app home screen.

Can patrons change the app colors?

No. Default app colors are configured by the library through the Content Management System. Patrons can customize their viewing experience using available preferences, such as Light, Dark, or Auto theme and Simplified Home View.

Does Dark Theme require any setup by the library?

No. Dark Theme is available automatically in the app and does not require any configuration from the library.

Will changing the default app colors affect patron preferences?

No. Updating the default app colors changes the library's configured appearance but does not change a patron's selected theme or Simplified Home View preference.

What happens when a patron selects Auto Theme?

Auto Theme follows the appearance settings configured on the patron's device. If the device is set to Dark Mode, the app will use Dark Theme where supported. If the device is set to Light Mode, the app will use Light Theme.

What happens when a patron selects Auto Select for Simplified Home View?

Auto Select allows the app to determine the appropriate home screen layout based on the patron's device accessibility settings. The app will automatically adjust the display based on the available settings.
