Using Research Starters

In order to display Research Starters in Encore, your library must have EBSCO Discovery Service with Research Starters set as an active database. For more information, see Configuring Research Starters.

Encore with EDS supports integration with the EDS Research Starters database. Research Starters provide an overview of information on topics related to your search term. When you conduct a search, Encore searches the EBSCO Research Starters database, and displays the first result at the top of the page in the Research Starter box.

For example, if you search for "dogs", Encore might display the following Research Starter:

The Research Starter box displays the following elements:

  • The hyperlinked name of the Research Starter
  • An image associated with the Research Starter
  • A few lines of introductory text from the Research Starter with a link to view more
  • The source and date of the information presented in the Research Starter
  • Links to additional Research Starters which are related to the patron's search

Using the Administration Application, your library can define the number of additional Research Starters which display.

Click on the name, image, or More link to view the full Research Starter content. If prompted, log in to your patron account. Encore opens a new browser window and links you to the EBSCO database.
