Encore with EDS

Encore with EDS is Innovative's integration with EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). Encore with EDS provides interfiled search results of catalog data and database resources. EDS and catalog results are integrated using an algorithm based on the subfield a of a record's 245-t tagged field and the relevance of the results.

To view your Encore with EDS product, select the appropriate tab in your Encore:

  • Catalog Plus - EDS results interfiled with your library catalog.
  • EDS - EDS-only results.
Tabs in Encore with EDS

Libraries using Encore with EDS can include any of the following tabs offered with Encore:

  • Catalog - results limited to your local catalog (and harvested repositories if you have Encore Harvester).
  • Catalog Plus
  • EDS
  • Images - results limited to harvested repositories. This tab requires Encore Harvester.

You can offer as many or as few of the available tabs as you require. To edit your tab labels, search for the tab in the Encore Messages option in your admin application.

To have your Encore Home Page default to the tab of your choosing, contact Innovative.

Configuring your EDS Integration

EDS integration requires proxy configuration. Encore supports the following proxy methods:

Review your EBSCO EDS documentation for details on how to implement proxy configuration in your EBSCO Admin function.

Using EZproxy

EZproxy Setup

EZproxy requires installation and setup before use. For more information, see EZproxy installation instructions.

To set up Encore with EDS with EZProxy:

  1. Set up your database proxy rules within the EZProxy software. If you already use EZProxy for your database authentication, the proxy rules are probably configured already. For more information, see the EZProxy Documentation Website and confer with your EBSCO Discovery Services Coordinator.
  2. Set up the proxy information for your databases in the EBSCO Administration Module, or you can provide this information to your EBSCO Discovery Services Coordinator. For more information refer to the Encore with EDS Best Practices Guide.
  3. Set EZProxy to use Innovative’s CAS authentication. Information on integrating EZProxy with CAS authentication is available at Central Authentication Service (CAS) instructions. Please note that the CAS URL syntax needed for Innovative systems is:
Element Value
LoginURL http://[DNS]/iii/cas/login
ServiceValidateURL http://[DNS]/iii/cas/serviceValidate

Where [DNS] is the DNS of your Sierra Application or Millennium server. For example: http://sierra.lib.edu/iii/cas/login.

The section of your EZProxy Configuration file which allows it to use Innovative’s CAS login service will look like:

::CAS
LoginURL http://[sierra.mylibrary.org]/cas/login
ServiceValidateURL http://[sierra.mylibrary.org]/cas/serviceValidate
/CAS

Where [sierra.mylibrary.org] is the name of your sierra application server.

Note

Once you set your EZProxy configuration file to use Innovative’s CAS login, all EZProxy connections are directed to Innovative’s CAS login, even if the EZProxy links are outside of Encore or WebPAC. This means that anyone using those links must have a patron record in good standing on your Sierra system in order to login using EZProxy.

To configure URLs using EZProxy format:

http://[EZProxy server]:[port]/login?url=[target server URL]

Where [EZProxy server] is the DNS of your EZProxy server, [port] is the port number (if specified), and [target server] is the DNS and any commands (such as /search) for the target database.

For example, your EZproxy server is named ezproxy.yourlib.org and the target server URL is www.somedb.com/search/, then the URL is:

http://ezproxy.yourlib.org/login?url=http://www.somedb.com/search/

Using Web Access Management

To set up Encore with EDS with Web Access Management, do the following.

  1. Configure URLs using Web Access Management Proxy Rewrite format:

http://[port]-[target server].[Innovative server]

Where [Innovative server] is the DNS of your Innovative server, [port] is the port number (if specified), and [target server] is the DNS for the target database. Confer with your EBSCO Discovery Services Coordinator if you have any questions about the URL for EDS.

  1. Set up the proxy information for your databases in the EBSCO Administration Module. Alternatively, you can provide this information to your EBSCO Discovery Services Coordinator. For more information, refer to the Encore with EDS Best Practices Guide.
