Defining ILL Request Types

Your library can offer the following types of ILL requests:

  • books
  • journal articles
  • book chapters
  • conference proceedings
  • dissertations and theses
  • government reports
  • technical reports

When setting up ILL, you can choose to enable all of these request types or to limit requesting to a subset of material types (for example, books and journal articles only). For each type of request you offer, ILL provides a unique set of request parameters and prompts.

To set up each request type, provide the following information to Innovative prior to installation:

  • The type of request you want to enable.
  • The label you want to display for the request type. This label displays when ILL prompts you to choose a request type as you enter a new ILL request.
  • A default follow-up date for requests of this type. The system uses this default to populate the follow-up date when you acquire the request.
  • Whether you want the system to prompt for a barcode when receiving a returnable ILL request of this type.
  • The prompts you want to display when entering a request of this type.

In addition, if you want to allow patrons to submit their own ILL requests, you must also provide the following additional information:

  • The P TYPE values of patrons you want to allow to request this type of material.
  • A message to display when the patron enters the ILL request. For example:

Journal article requests are typically available within three to five days and will be mailed to your home address.

  • A copyright statement to display to the patron.

You can provide this information to Innovative by filling out the ILL Request Parameters worksheet in the Getting Started Manual.
