PressReader troubleshooting
What do I do if a borrowed magazine will not open on the patron’s device?
If a borrowed item doesn’t open, try the following steps:
-
Ensure their device is connected to the internet for the first time download.
-
Check that their device has enough free storage.
-
If the problem persists, please submit a case to Clarivate’s Support team.
Why is PressReader content not showing in search results?
PressReader content will only appear in search when:
-
The PressReader filter is selected in the Search In option.
-
The content exists in your library’s subscription.
-
The title is indexed and available in the PressReader dataset.
Why is no PressReader content visible in the app after configuration?
If PressReader has been configured but no content appears in the app, check the following:
-
The PressReader toggle is enabled in the Preferences menu.
-
Ensure the version of the app is the most up-to-date version.
-
If all settings are correct and content still does not appear please submit a case to Clarivate’s Support team.
Why are the PressReader Showcases showing empty items?
This usually happens due to a configuration issue. Check the following:
-
The correct PressReader ID type is being used (Featured, Category, or Publication).
-
The ID value is valid and correctly formatted.
-
The content exists in the PressReader subscription.
-
The showcase is assigned to an active home screen feed.
-
If any of these are incorrect, the showcase may load but display no items.
Why does content open differently than expected in Clarivate Vega Mobile app versus PressReader view?
This occurs when different reading systems are used within the app.
-
Clarivate Vega Mobile in-app reader is used for "Open & Download" items.
-
PressReader SDK is used when opening content via "Open in PressReader."
How the content opens depends on which option you select.
Why aren’t notifications working when using PressReader content?
When the PressReader SDK is active within the Clarivate Vega Mobile App, push notifications from the app will not function.
This happens because the SDK takes control of the active application session while content is being viewed.
Notifications may still appear at the device level. This depends on your device settings. However, they will not trigger in-app actions during a PressReader session.
This behavior is expected and cannot be changed or configured by Clarivate.
Why does a downloaded item fail to open offline?
If a borrowed item does not open offline, it may be due to one of the following:
-
The download was not fully completed before going offline.
-
The app has not been opened online at least once after download.
-
Device storage or permissions are restricting access.
Reopening the app while online usually resolves the issue.
What should I do if a patron sees a “device not supported” message when trying to access the app?
If their device is unsupported, this is expected behavior.
Why can’t the patron find a specific newspaper or magazine?
If a title doesn't appear in search results, check the following:
-
The publication is included in your library's PressReader subscription.
-
The patron is searching with the PressReader search target selected.
-
The publication is currently available through PressReader.
