Collections Overview
A collection record names a collection, tracks which branches use the collection, and designates which branches are eligible to receive items from floating collections.
When you configure collection records in Polaris System Administration (web-based), the collection records become available for selection in the following areas in Leap:
-
Item records — You can use the Find Tool to sort and filter searches for item records by collection.
-
Selection lists
-
Serial holdings records
-
Purchase orders
-
Invoices
-
Circulation reports — Some reports list items by collections.
-
Bibliographic records — The system uses collection abbreviations in designation fields when you import bibliographic records for bulk-adding to purchase orders or selection lists, and for shelf-ready cataloging.
Each branch can have its own set of collections, and collections can have the same names used by other branches. A collection can belong to more than one branch for rotating collections or for shared collections, and you can designate collections as eligible to float from branch to branch.
