Displaying Information from License and Resource Records

If your library has acquired the Electronic Resources Management (ERM) product, you can choose to display fields from license and resource records in the WebBridge resource panels (the pop-up windows that contain resource links).

If you configure WebBridge to display fields from license and resource records, the WebBridge resolution server behaves as follows:

  1. When a request for a resource is received by the WebBridge server, the server parses the request and applies categories, filters, and data tests. This determines which resource links are offered.
  2. The WebBridge resolution server then determines whether you have selected a resource identifier from the Match against this resource drop-down menu.
  3. If you chose a resource identifier, and it matches a resource link to be offered, the WebBridge resolution server searches for a resource record containing the resource identifier.
  4. If a resource record containing the resource identifier is found, the specified fields from the resource record and its linked license record display in the resource panel.

Note that if your library acquired ERM, WebBridge refers to resource identifiers as "ERM resource identifiers" and uses them to:

  • restrict data tests to a portion of the coverage database
  • link a resource in the coverage database to its resource record

If your library has not acquired ERM, WebBridge uses resource identifiers only to restrict data tests to a portion of the coverage database.

You can display fields pertinent to WebBridge users' access to resources, such as terms of use, service outages, etc. The process for displaying fields from license and resource records is:

  1. Create ERM resource identifiers.

A resource identifier is automatically created for any resource loaded in the coverage database. Create resource identifiers only for resources that have a resource record but are not loaded in the coverage database.
  2. Choose the resource identifier in the WebBridge resource definition's Match against this resource drop-down menu.
  3. Edit the WebBridge resource panels to specify the record fields that display.
