Server Administration
The Encore Server Administration application enables you to run and review backups, review the unattended backup schedule, and shut down or reboot your Encore system. The application enables you to:
- Initialize a backup tape.
- Execute an immediate backup.
- Review the backup log.
- Review the backup schedule.
- Shut down or reboot the server.
Backing Up Now
The Backup tab enables you to initialize backup media and execute an immediate backup of your Encore server. The following information appears on the tab:
- Tape Name - The name of the current backup tape (set in the New tape name text box).
- Machine Name - The name of the server hosting the data for backup.
- Time Created - The date and time that the current backup configuration was created.
- Initialized - Indicates whether the backup media is initialized (ready to run).
To execute an immediate backup of your Encore server:
- Specify a name for the backup in the New tape name text box.
- Choose Initialize. When the initialization is complete, the information lines of the Backup Now tab reflect your current backup name and "YES" appears on the Initialized line.
If you are initializing backup media for an unattended backup, do not continue with the following steps.
- Choose Backup now.
- When the confirmation dialog box opens, choose OK.
Reviewing the Backup Log
The Backup Log button on the Backup tab enables you to review a list of backups run on your Encore server. The list includes the following columns:
| Column | Description |

| ID | A unique ID number for the backup. |
| Date | The date on which the backup was run. |
| Tape Name | The name applied to the backup tape when it was scheduled or run. |
| Status | A message indicating whether the backup was successful or if there was an error. |
| Verified | A check mark indicates that the backup program successfully verified the integrity of the backup data. |
In the Backup Log table, you can click a column heading to sort the list by that column's contents.
Reviewing the Backup Schedule
The Backup Schedule tab presents the currently configured backup schedule. Contact Encore Services to change your server's automated backup schedule.
Unattended Backups
Unattended backups require an initialized tape. You can initialize a tape on the Backup Now tab.
Shutting Down the Server
Shut down the server only in case of emergency, scheduled power outage, or to move the hardware. Do not shut down the Encore server for any other reason without explicit instructions from Innovative. Please contact Encore Services before moving the server or if you have a scheduled power outage.
The Shutdown tab enables you to shut down and reboot the server. The tab offers two options:
- Shutdown Only - Shuts down the server with no reboot.
- Shutdown and Reboot - Shuts down and then reboots the server.
