Polaris Libraries Preparing for Pickup Areas Feature - Polaris API Patch

Customers who would like to turn on Pickup Areas functions in Vega Discover should first reach out to Support to request a Polaris API patch. The changes required for Pickup Areas support in Vega Discover are in Polaris 7.8 and a patch is available for customers currently using 7.6 and 7.7 versions. You much update with this patch before we can turn on Pickup Areas support. See below for important details about how Pickup Areas will work in Vega Discover once released.

  1. You must first have the Polaris patch mentioned above applied to your Polaris installation before Pickup Areas functions can be turned on. To have the patch installed please submit a Support ticket for your library. When Pickup Areas functions for Vega Discover are cleared for GA, Support will be able to turn on these functions for your library if the patch has been applied in advance.

  2. The Polaris APIs do not support the selection of a default pickup area per library location as defined in the Polaris configuration and this ability is expected to come later in a future release of the Polaris APIs. See #3 and #4 below for available default options and how to configure them.

  3. If you library does not require pickup areas selection for a location you must enable the "None" option for display for that location. Vega will auto-select "None" as the default when this option exists and patrons can either proceed with the "None" option selected to request the material or select another pickup area.

  4. If "None" is not included in the display in the Pickup Areas, Vega will require the selection of a pickup area and will display, "Select Pickup Area" text in the Pickup Areas box. Requests cannot be made without selecting a pickup area in this scenario.

  5. Patrons can select a preferred pickup location and pickup area if one exists for their selected location in their patron profile and if they do so, Vega will auto-select these preferences when that patron places a request. The patron can modify these at any time in their profile and can change selection for individual requests before submitting.

  6. Pickup Area translations in the strings file now apply to both holds workflows and the patron pickup area preference selection drop-downs.

  7. Pickup Locations and Areas are disabled and not required for selection when the Borrow by Mail workflow is selected by the patron.
