About eContent Metadata Updates

In our last release, updates were made to econtent metadata. We incorrectly instructed customers to run full extractions to update your subscriptions.

Scheduling a full extraction can only be done by Innovative.

For those customers that use APIs to sideload records: Full extractions will be run for all customers by the end of January 2025. We will let everyone know when these updates are complete in the next set of Release Notes.

To check your status: Check your Record Extractions for full update jobs or your catalog metadata for Hoopla author or OverDrive title and language updates.

 

Dibiost eContent Integration

Vega Discover now supports an integration with the Dibiost econtent provider. A Dibiost integration provides the following:

  1. Configure eaudiobooks and ebooks from the Dibiost collections to map to ILS Material Types.

    1. All other econtent formats in the Dibiost subscription will not be loaded into Vega Discover.

  2. Side-load MARCXML records directly into Vega Discover. This is required for the Dibiost integration.

  3. Features for Authenticated Patrons

    1. Vega will display the currently circulating materials for authenticating patrons in the Patron Checkouts.

      Dibiost does not provide Vega with Holds/Requests information.

    2. When a patron uses the Check Availability button in Vega Discover, Vega checks with Dibiost to see if the patron has access to this material.

      1. If so, the patron is sent to the record in Dibiost in a new tab and will be authenticated on arrival. Once there, the patron can proceed with checking out the material in the Dibiost catalog.

      2. If not, the patron is sent to the record in Dibiost in a new tab, but will not be authenticated upon arrival.

Relevancy Improvement of the 245 $a Title

This change requires and post deployment step to enable and may take several days to reflect in your catalog.

This feature completes an Idea Exchange Request with 42 votes and allows for titles such as "James: a novel" to be found by simply searching for "James", without having to scroll through several pages of search results.

For titles that have a mainTitle in $a and other indexed subfields (b, f, g, k, n, p, s) a search matching only the $a subfield will be boosted above the regular title match but still less than an exact title match. Linked 880 $a fields are similarly boosted.

Staff eContent Extraction Searching Updates

The Vega Admin Record Extraction details have been updated to allow staff to search for indexed econtent records for vendor extractions by the following fields:

  • ISBN (previously the only method allowed for searching)

  • recordID

  • title

  • author

This feature will help with troubleshooting econtent metadata concerns by allowing staff to search for specific records by title, titleID or author when the title has no ISBN.

Account Portal and Account Linking Release Date

The release, originally scheduled for January 6–7, will now take place on February 3–4 (timing varies by region).

This adjustment was made at the request of our library partners to allow additional time for libraries to prepare Patrons for the change and ensure a smooth transition.

What you need to know:

  • No action required: My Bookshelf will automatically transition to Account Portal after the release.

  • Patrons click the account icon at the top of the page to manage their account.

  • Flexible terminology: “Account Portal” is fully translatable, so you can update the label at any time to fit your preferred terminology.
