Configure nonintegrated econtent
Nonintegrated econtent refers to MARC records for econtent that a library creates in its ILS. These records include links to econtent that patrons can either access immediately or they may need to log into another system to use. The content is nonintegrated because either an API integration for the vendor hasn’t been created yet, or no API integration is available to provide a better access experience.
The nonintegrated econtent feature allows libraries to control the display of econtent that lacks an API integration. You can upload an icon for a configured vendor that appears for the work in Vega Discover. For libraries that use collection sites, the feature also provides control over where and how nonintegrated econtent and specific links in a record appear. For example, a consortia library with five branches, each using a different link to a Kanopy title, can create five different configurations that specify the base URL for each branch. This ensures that the Kanopy record isn’t visible in branches that don’t have access, and it directs patrons who do have access to the correct URL when they check availability.
Use the base URL from the 856 $u bib record in your ILS to create links to econtent in Vega Discover. Use an asterisk (*) for any required wildcards in your base URL. If you configure a true base URL, always end with an asterisk to indicate that the configured text can be followed by any additional address information.
Base URL structure
Use the following base URL structure:
https://*.site.com/*/ebook/*
Examples
https://www.linkedin.com/learning/*?u=78790476&auth=true
https://www.linkedin.com/learning/the-power-of-introverts?u=78790476&auth=true
If you have URLs that start with https and URLs that start with http, create two links: one that starts with https and one that starts with http.
Nonconsortia libraries
For nonconsortia libraries that simply want to add a logo for a type of nonintegrated econtent, enter a connection name and a base URL for all links to that type of econtent, then upload a display logo and save. All content with 856 URLs that match the configuration update to display the logo when no other econtent is included in the work.
Consortia libraries
For consortia libraries that want to control the display of URLs and econtent records across your member library sites, enter one configuration for each URL that a member library uses to access content. Enter a descriptive connection name such as Central Library Kanopy, and then enter the base URL that patrons at Central Library will use to access Kanopy materials.
You need to create a configuration for every possible base URL used by your libraries and share them accordingly to the matching sites.
Example
https://central.kanopy.com.
Sample scenarios
-
For each title in a subscription, there is no specific link to the title, and each library uses a different URL to access the database where the content is stored.
Example:
http://evanced.mylibrary.org:8888/login?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?profile=mainbranch&groupid=main&authtype=ip
This URL is specific to the main branch library. For consortia with individual links for each library, a patron would need to know which link in a long list to click for their library. If you configure and share this URL only to the main branch library, when patrons select Find a copy, the system directs them to this specific URL for matching econtent materials. (All other URLs will be suppressed from that site.) This means patrons will go to the correct login page for the main branch library.
-
Each library with access to this LinkedIn Learning course uses the u=XXXXXXXX parameter in the URL to direct the patron to the correct LinkedIn Learning access for their library.
Example:
https://www.linkedin.com/learning/the-power-of-introverts?u=12345678&auth=true
In the base URL configuration, the library would use an asterisk (*) for the portion of the URL that lists the title of the course, and include the u=XXXXXXXX portion that defines their specific subscription account.
Example:
https://www.linkedin.com/learning/*?u=12345678&auth=true
Then the administrator shares this configuration to the library that uses this URL to cause Vega to use this URL in that site to direct patrons to this content.
-
For other links, the libraryID might be in the URL before the other details to take a patron to a specific resource:
http://www.resources.com/libraryID/*
In the base URL configuration, the library enters the first part of the URL (http://www.resources.com/libraryID/*), including the libraryID, to map all resources with this base URL to this configuration. Then the library shares this configuration to the library that uses this URL to direct patrons to the content.
-
All libraries use the same, single link to access the content, but you want to show a specific icon for all materials.
Example:
Project Gutenberg titles: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/23077
In the base URL configuration, the library enters the first part of the URL: https://www.gutenberg.org/* or https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/* and uploads the desired icon. Then the library would share this configuration to all sites.
To configure nonintegrated econtent
- From the Settings menu, select Non-Integrated eContent list page.
- Select + NEW CONFIGURATION.
The Edit Connection page opens. - In the Connection name box, enter a name for the connection.
- In the Base URL box, enter the base URL for the econtent.
- If you want to upload a logo, select Upload Logo, then select a logo.
- Select SAVE.
After you finish all nonintegrated econtent configurations, you must run a full MARC extraction. Please wait at least 15 minutes after you save the configurations. If you configure more nonintegrated econtent in the future, run another full MARC extraction.
To run a full MARC extraction
- From the Settings menu, select Record extraction.
- On the EXTRACTION STATUS tab, select CREATE MARC EXTRACTION REQUEST.
- Select All records.
- Select Submit.
The Create MARC Extraction Request dialog opens.
