Configure econtent mapping
If you want to use vendor APIs to ingest econtent records directly into the Vega context engine, you must first configure the format mapping for each vendor. The vendor format mapping lists each vendor format for the electronic content you will receive in your subscription and you select the equivalent material type from your material type settings.
Incoming records from the vendor appear under the material type format group tab as configured in your material type settings. For example, if you map the vendor format of "eBook" to a material type in your ILS called "EBOOK," but your material type settings are set to the default display of the "eBook" format group, then materials from the vendor appear on the eBook tab of works with any other ebook materials from other vendors or cataloged in your ILS.
The default vendor format is a catchall that Vega uses when it receives data in an unknown format from a vendor so the content is mapped for display in Vega. Normally, Vega shouldn’t receive data in an unknown format, but it’s a safeguard to maintain proper display of content. It is recommended that you use your “eBook” material type or another generic format such as “Electronic Resources” as the default vendor format mapping for all vendors.
You can map format types for the following econtent vendors:
- Axis 360
- BorrowBox
- cloudLibrary
- Hoopla
- OverDrive
- Dibiost
Some vendors, such as Dibiost, provide a limited API integration. In these cases, only supported formats are loaded into Vega Discover. For Dibiost, those are eBooks and eAudiobooks.
To map format types
- From the Settings menu, select Third-party connections to open the Third-party connections configuration page. This page lists the available connection types.
- Select the Configure button next to the vendor that you want to map econtent types for.
- In the Vendor Format Mapping section, for each vendor format, select from the available material types.
- Select SAVE CHANGES.
Modify an econtent mapping configuration
If you already saved a vendor configuration with the API checkbox selected and you need to modify the econtent format mappings, you must do a full reindex of your vendor content to update the required metadata fields.
To modify an econtent mapping configuration
- Delete your vendor connection.
- Wait 24 hours for full deindexing of metadata.
- Reconfigure your vendor format mappings.
- Re-enable the API ingest of records from the vendor.
