Using Related Searches

The Related Searches component suggests terms, related to the current search, that might provide improved results. Each suggested term is a link that initiates a new search.

Depending on your library's configuration, your implementation of Encore might include the full Related Searches component or a compact version. The full component includes two parts; Established Terms and Additional Suggestions.

Established Terms

The Established Terms list comprises uniform authority headings related to the current search. When you hover your mouse pointer over the question mark, a pop-up window describes this feature:

These terms were chosen by librarians to ensure consistency in organizing library materials. For example, if you search for works about couches, you might not find all the relevant resources. Library catalogers chose the word "sofas" to uniformly represent all related terms, such as "couches","divans", and "davenports." Click one of the listed subjects or names to search using the Library's authoritative classification terms.

Additional Suggestions

The Additional Suggestions list provides a set of search terms drawn from record subject fields (6XX |a) and from community tags, if they are used by your library.

The Additional Suggestions list links initiate a new search using the suggested term. This is in contrast to the action of the Tag facets, which refine the existing search results list.
