Finding the RightResult
By default, your search results appear grouped by RightResult relevance to provide quick access to the most useful resources. You can switch between a RightResult view and an ungrouped view, sorted by date or title, using the sort options provided at the top of the result set.
Catalog Plus
Results in the Catalog Plus tab support sorting by relevance and date. Title sorting is not supported by EDS search results.
RightResult weights materials based on where the search term appears in the record data and assesses other factors such as the type of material and adjacency of terms. Up to five groups can appear:
- Group 1 contains results with the highest relevance for the current search term(s). Within this group, serials and Electronic Resource Management (ERM) resources receive added weight.
- Group 2 contains the next most relevant results, in which the search terms are found together as a phrase in a significant field in the record.
- Group 3 contains the other matches for an adjacency search.
Groups 1, 2, and 3 include all results with adjacent search terms.
- Group 4 contains the results in which all search terms appear in significant fields in the record, but not adjacently.
- Group 5 contains any remaining results in which all search terms appear somewhere in the record, but not adjacently.
A single word query never generates groups 4 and 5.
RightResult Options
Two options for relevance ranking in RightResult affect ranking for popular titles with many copies and single word monographic titles:
- Enhanced relevance for popular titles affects the ranking of titles at the top of the results set based upon the number of attached copies . This helps libraries promote best sellers and popular original titles cited in recent criticism or other media.
- Enhanced relevance for known titles affects the ranking of monographic titles that appear at the top of the results based upon how the search string matches the 245a field. This is very similar to the way serial titles are handled, and is useful for automatically promoting single-word and other known titles.
