Configure OAI-PMH connections
You can add multiple connections to harvest metadata from providers who use the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). After you add OAI-PMH connections, you can share the metadata to collection sites.
You can use one of the following methods to include thumbnail images:
- A URL of an image
- A URL that uses an identifier code from a Dublin Core (DC) field in your object metadata.
Example: example.com/cover?id=##header.identifier##/image - A field in your DC metadata that contains a URL to the repository image.
Example: ##metadata.dc.relation##
-
After you add your OAI-PMI connections, you must contact Support to schedule your harvest and updates. We recommend that you harvest metadata every week.
-
If a repository or an element isn’t found, Vega uses the default cover.
- From the Settings menu, select OAI-PMH list page.
- On the OAI-PMH connections configuration page, select + OAI CONFIGURATION.
- On the Edit Connection page, in the OAI Repository Name box, enter the name of the OAI repository.
- In the OAI Base URL box, enter the OAI base URL of the provider.
- In the Thumbnail URL box, enter the URL or leave the box empty:
- Select SYNC COLLECTION DETAILS.
Vega checks to see if the repository contains collection sets and supported metadata types. If it does, Vega displays a list of names. - From the Metadata prefix list, select oai_dc.
- In the List of Collections section, select the collections you want to ingest.
- If you don’t select any collections, Vega harvests all materials including materials that have no collection.
- If you select all collections, Vega harvests materials that belong to the selected collections, but doesn’t include materials that have no collection.
- Select Save.
